Just a little update....

Well, I thought I would give you all a little update on my kitchen. It is taking a little while to finish because we are doing the remodel ourselves with a LOT of help from my wonderful dad! (Thanks dad! We couldn't do it without you!) I love the way it is coming out, but I really can't wait until it is done. We currently have the lower half of my cabinets put in (please ignore the old white ones..We haven't replaced those yet),the new countertops and the new sink. This is just a little glimpse of the new kitchen. We still have the second side of cabinets and the new island to finish up. With the new appliances it really looks good. I don't know if you can really tell, but the color on the wall was an orange color called Apple Crisp in Behr paints. You can look online at the Behr website to get the true color of it, but on my walls it now looks sort of like a butterscotch. I think it is because of the color of cabinets & countertops that I chose because when I had just the white cabinets it looked exactly like the paint sample. Never the less I still love it. We still have the top cabinets and the floor to do. I haven't chosen my tile yet, but was thinking of matching the countertops (Travertine).

This has been a really trying time for us though. We started the kitchen by tearing down the wall separating the kitchen from the dining room. In doing this we also took out the island. Who ever lived here before us did a horrible job fixing the place up. Would you believe when we took out the stove we found that the previous owners had the stove hooked up and the wires tied with....DUCT TAPE!! There were holes in the walls everywhere that we pulled out an appliance or cabinet. After fixing that we decided we wanted to expand the kitchen so we tore down another wall separating it from the washroom. We moved the washroom to the garage and enlarged the kitchen. (Nice!!) We then decided to install new cabinets and a sink. We also decided to change the floor. It is a bugger to pull up 2 LAYERS old linoleum. Still working on that one.

As if all of this wasn't enough work.....The bathtub drain broke and we had to replace that. What to our amazement is discovered when we pull the old shower wrap around off? A large hole in the wall that was rotting out with the water!!! We are so tired and wondering...."hmmm, what exactly did we buy?"

Oh my.... We are starting remodelling our bathroom in about a month and I am beginning to fear that the previous owners of our house could have lived in yours too! So far I found a panel of untreated plywood (next to the shower!) molding away behind plastered faux roman pillars...

Kitchen will be next, wonder what horror we will find there..
